About This Series

Insights from Practice is a monthly themed weekly reflection series under A Nurse Like Me. It highlights short, practical lessons nurses have gained through real experiences in patient care. Each insight is published to support reflective practice, strengthen clinical judgment, and encourage shared learning across our profession.

Starting January 2026, one Insight will be featured each week based on a monthly theme connected to safety, professionalism, and compassionate care.

Your contribution does not need to be perfect writing. It only needs to be real, honest, and focused on one lesson from practice.

What You’ll Be Submitting

We are inviting a 150–250 word reflection based on one of the following prompts:

A moment that changed how I practice…
Three things I always do to improve care in…
A common mistake we don’t talk about enough…
A quick teaching note on…

You may write from your current specialty or any meaningful experience from your practice.

February 2026 Theme

Communication that prevents harm

So much of safe care depends on how we speak, listen, and respond, especially in difficult moments. For February, Insights from Practice is inviting nurses to share short reflections on Communication That Prevents Harm.

This includes real experiences with:

• SBAR and escalation

• difficult or sensitive conversations

• communication with patients and families

• de-escalation and calming tense situations

• moments where communication changed the outcome
