Short reflections. Real learning that strengthens care.

Insights from Practice is a collaborative micro-article series by A Nurse Like Me, created to showcase practical wisdom from nurses in everyday practice.

Each month, we invite nurses across different specialties to share short, focused reflections (150–250 words), that help another nurse think, notice, or act differently in their care.

This is about real practice, real patients, and real growth in your own words.

Who Can Contribute?

This space is for you if you are:

  • A student nurse or newly qualified nurse
  • A bedside nurse in any specialty
  • A nurse educator, manager, or specialist
  • A nurse who has learned something in practice and wants to pass it on

You don’t need to be a writer. You just need one insight from practice that could help someone else.

This Month’s Theme

For this round of Insights from Practice, we are focusing on:

THE HEART OF PRACTICE: Communication that prevents harm

You can write from your own experience, your specialty, or a lesson you wish more nurses understood.

What We’re Looking For

Share a 150–250 word micro-article built around one clear idea.

Choose one prompt:

  • One thing I wish every nurse knew about…
  • A moment that changed how I practice…
  • Three things I always do to improve care in…
  • A common mistake we don’t talk about enough…
  • A quick teaching note on…

Write as if you’re talking to a colleague you care about.

How It Works

  1. Submit your micro-article using the form below.
  2. We review and lightly edit for clarity (while keeping your voice).
  3. Selected pieces are featured weekly as part of Insights from Practice on:
  • A Nurse Like Me platforms
  • Our website or blog
  • Social media spotlights and carousels
  1. Your name, role, and specialty are credited.

This is a practice-focused, nurse-to-nurse space, not an academic publication.

Submission Guidelines

  • Word count: 150–250 words
  • No patient names or identifiable details
  • Keep it specific and practical
  • Focus on one main idea or lesson
  • Nurses from all countries and specialties welcome
  • Open to student nurses

If you’re unsure, submit anyway. We help shape your insight.

Why Your Voice Matters

Nursing practice is shaped not only by policies and textbooks, but by the small choices we make on every shift.

Your reflection may:

  • Help another nurse notice a red flag earlier
  • Encourage someone to speak up for a patient
  • Offer comfort to a nurse who feels alone
  • Raise the standard of care in unseen ways

Insights from Practice exists because your experience carries weight.
